Gillian and Doug are in NZ at this moment (a hiker's paradise, she says), but she has confirmed their generous offer for us to stay at their cabin for a weekend.

Please send me a note if you plan to go. We need to do a bit of coordination, perhaps talk about meal planning.

Dave and I probably won't be able to attend as it is the weekend before exams for Quentin and he has to be ready for his Biology 12 final. We will be with you in spirit though!!

Saturday, May 18 - Salt Spring Island

After reading the ferry schedule we decided that Mayne Island would require too much ferry time, and that Salt Spring might work out better.

Tracy has done the research:

We could catch the ferry to Salt Spring at 9am from Swartz Bay to Fulford Harbour. We would likely want to arrive at the terminal by 8am to be sure to get on. The crossing is only 35 min. We could even stop by the famous, Saturday Salt Spring market which is open from 8:30-4pm before heading off on a hike! There is also a fabulous restaurant at Fulford Harbour by the ferry terminal called Rock Salt. We could park our vehicles in the ferry line about an hour in advance of the sailing and enjoy a nice lunch/afternoon snack. The return times in the afternoon are 1:50 or 3:50.

Send me a note if you plan to go. We want to plan for more people in fewer vehicles.

Saturday we hike Mount Tzouhalem!

Let's meet at Westshore Serious Coffee around 8, and head out by 9:00 to drive to the Cowichan Valley.

I googled Mt. Tzouhalem and this is what I found. The guy in the 4th picture sure looks like Gary.

Kinsol Trestle update

Our grand plan for Saturday is to visit the Kinsol Trestle and explore some of the trails that follow the river. When we are finished we can head into Shawnigan for a visit to the Village Chippery.

We thought it would be fun to go to Shawnigan and check out the Kinsol Trestle. We'll hike a trail too, but are still figuring that out.
